Business tax credits are available to all companies, including small businesses. The credits offset a company’s tax obligations to the federal government. Many small businesses qualify for these three tax credits:

Work Opportunity Tax Credit. This is applicable to companies that employ certain workers, such as veterans, people on food stamps, and people who have gone through the criminal justice system.

New Family Leave Act Tax Credit. Established by the 2017 Tax Cuts Jobs Act, this tax credit is available to companies that offer paid leave, sick pay, and vacation to qualifying employees.

Research and Development Tax Credit. This credit includes research for product development, quality improvement, and business performance improvement.

Companies can apply for these tax credits through the IRS website.
